Thousands of demonstrators reportedly rallied against Vladimir Putin's re-election bid. Despite the anticipated victory for Putin in the Russian presidential election, dissenters took to the streets today to challenge the perpetuation of his dominance in the Kremlin.
Supporters of the late opposition figure Alexei Navalny convened at polling stations both within Russia and abroad at noon local time for the "Noon against Putin" demonstration. Many intended to invalidate their ballots, vote for one of the three opposition contenders, or inscribe Navalny's name.
Numerous reports indicated that thousands peacefully participated in these protests.
Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Navalny, joined a demonstration outside the Russian embassy in Berlin, Germany, along with others waiting to cast their votes.
