Rishi Sunak, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Would Prevent Boris Johnson From Standing as a Conservative MP

According to sources cited by The Guardian, Rishi Sunak, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, would prevent Boris Johnson from standing as a Conservative MP in the next election. The two politicians have engaged in a highly publicized war of words, with the prime minister accusing Johnson of lobbying to bypass due process in appointing three Tory MPs to the House of Lords. Johnson, in turn, dismissed the accusations as "rubbish."

These public clashes have exposed a longstanding bitter dispute between the two senior politicians, leading to a broader divide within the Conservative Party and triggering a series of by-elections that could test Sunak's hold on power.

Surprisingly, Johnson announced his immediate resignation as a Member of Parliament on Friday. This decision came after learning that the House of Commons privileges committee was likely to recommend a suspension of at least 10 days for his misleading statements to MPs regarding the Partygate scandal. While hinting at a possible return to frontline politics in the future, Johnson expressed sadness at leaving parliament, and his close allies claimed he felt unfairly ousted from No 10.

These developments reflect a tumultuous period within the Conservative Party, characterized by internal divisions and political maneuvering at the highest levels.
