Tragic Incident: A Man Dies After Swimmingpool Sinkhole Has Sucked Him

A man drowned after being sucked into a sinkhole that opened under a swimming pool.

Klil Kimhi, 32, died on Thursday when he was dragged into a vortex at the bottom of the pool at a villa his marketing company had rented in the town of Karmei Yosef, in central Israel.

One of the partygoers said the sinkhole opened without warning while there were about 50 people around the pool.

“The water level suddenly started receding and a hole opened up, creating a vortex that swept two people inside,” the witness told Channel 12 news.

A couple in their 60s who own the property were arrested on suspicion of causing death by negligence.

Video filmed at the time showed the large swimming pool draining into a gaping hole that opened at the bottom, sucking in inflatable toys with the water.

People can be seen sitting on the side of the pool watching as a man slips and is almost sucked into the hole, as dance music plays in the background.

While one man who was briefly sucked into the swirling waters escaped with light injuries, Mr Kimhi was pronounced dead when rescue workers recovered his body hours later at the end of a 15-metre tunnel.
